Four glucometers compared on price, strip cost per test and warranty.

Best Glucometer in Sri Lanka (2026): Price, Strip Cost and Warranty Compared - Hu Med Health Blog Sri Lanka

The best glucometer in Sri Lanka is the one whose strips you can afford every month. The meters below cost LKR 5,500 to LKR 7,950, but strips cost about LKR 106–112 per test. At four tests a day, that is over LKR 12,000 a month, more than the meter.

Quick answer

  • Lowest meter price: Medismart Sapphire, LKR 5,500.

  • Lowest strip cost per test: BG Pro, LKR 106 at today's sale price. Bionime and Medismart are LKR 110, and CareSens is LKR 112.

  • Longest warranty: Bionime GM700, CareSens N Eco and Medismart Sapphire have a lifetime warranty. BG Pro GM56A has 5 years.

  • Biggest saving on the meter: Bionime GM700 is LKR 7,950, down from LKR 8,500.

The gaps between brands are small (LKR 6 per test between the cheapest and the dearest). Pick the meter you find easiest to use, then buy strips in the pack size you will finish before they expire.

How to choose a glucometer

1. Look at strip cost first

You buy strips again and again, but the meter only once. If you test twice a day, 60 strips a month cost about LKR 6,400 to LKR 6,700 across these brands. A cheaper meter does not help if its strips cost more.

2. Check that strips are easy to buy

Every meter only reads its own strips. A strip from another brand will not give a valid reading. All four brands here sell strips on our glucometer strips page, so you can refill without waiting.

3. Compare the warranty

Three of the four meters have a lifetime warranty and the fourth has five years. We are an authorised dealer for all four brands. Keep your invoice and warranty card.

4. Look at the display and memory

The Medismart Sapphire has a large LCD display and a 480-test memory. The BG Pro GM56A stores 450 results and shows 7, 14, 30 and 90-day averages. The CareSens N Eco has meal markers, alarms and a strip ejector.

The four meters, in short

How to use a glucometer correctly

These steps are general. Always follow the instructions in your meter's manual.

  1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water, and dry them well.

  2. Put a new lancet in the lancing device.

  3. Take a strip from the vial and close the vial straight away.

  4. Insert the strip. Wait for the meter to show it is ready.

  5. Prick the side of your fingertip for the finger prick test.

  6. Touch the drop of blood to the strip's tip. Wait for the glucometer reading.

  7. Write the result in your log book, with the time and whether it was before or after a meal.

  8. Throw the lancet away safely. Do not share lancets or lancing devices.

Check the expiry date on the vial. The BG Pro strip page says to use strips within 120 days of first opening. For the other brands, read the leaflet in the box.

FAQ

Which glucometer is most accurate?

We cannot rank accuracy for you. All four are NMRA approved. The Bionime GM700 page states compliance with ISO 15197:2015, the international accuracy standard for meters. Accuracy also depends on clean hands, fresh strips and correct use. Ask your doctor which meter suits you.

BG Pro strips are cheapest at LKR 106 per test (25 strips, LKR 2,655 sale price). Bionime and Medismart are LKR 110, and CareSens is LKR 112. The pack size does not change the cost per test. Sale prices can end, so check the product page.

Which glucometer has a lifetime warranty?

The Bionime GM700, CareSens N Eco and Medismart Sapphire have a lifetime warranty. The BG Pro GM56A has a 5-year warranty. The warranty covers the meter only, not the strips. We are an authorised dealer for all four brands, so keep your invoice.

A note on your health

A glucometer helps you track your readings. It cannot diagnose diabetes. Talk to your doctor about your target levels. For normal ranges, see our normal blood sugar level chart.
